Research Manager
Agiel adalah Research Manager yang memimpin pengembangan dan pelaksanaan strategi riset yang dilakukan oleh Pantau Gambut. Tugas Agiel memastikan riset yang dilaksanakan oleh Pantau Gambut dapat berjalan efektif, efisien, dan tepat waktu.
Setelah menyelesaikan studinya dari Jurusan Kehutanan, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Agiel memulai karir profesionalnya sejak tahun 2016. Sebagai orang yang berpengalaman pada bidang kehutanan, Agiel pernah menjadi salah satu pembicara pada TEDx Jakarta Countdown 2022.
Berlari dan travelling adalah hobi yang disukai Agiel untuk menghabiskan waktu luangnya. Dirinya memiliki target untuk menyelesaikan enam World Marathon Majors (WMM) untuk memperoleh Six Star Finisher Medal sebelum usia 50 tahun.

Istilah gambut mungkin masih terdengar asing bagi sejumlah kalangan, khususnya bagi mereka yang tinggal tidak berdekatan dengan lahan tersebut. Padahal, jenis lahan ini sudah santer dibicarakan sejak tahun 1972-1987 saat Presiden Soeharto menetapkan Program Nasional Transmigrasi di Kalimantan dan Sumatra. Penamaan gambut sendiri berasal dari bahasa Banjar di Kalimantan Selatan dan mulai masuk dalam kosa kata Bahasa Indonesia pada tahun 1970-an.

The 2nd Asia Parks Congress has been conducted on 24-29 May 2022 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The Protected Areas Congress with the theme "Parks for People and Nature" was attended by more than 1,200 participants from 49 countries in Asia with various backgrounds ranging from government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, youth, academics, private sector as well as indigenous and local people which were expected to enable knowledge and work experience exchange in the field of conservation and protected areas.

Massive land and forest fires recurred in peat areas throughout 2019, despite restoration activities and strengthened commitment for peat protection. Peatland fires have also been identified in a number of concession areas that should have carried out the restoration mandate since the 2015 major forest fires.

The occurrence of peat forest and land fires in 2022 has been widely covered by the national media. Provinces prone to haze such as: Riau, Central Kalimantan, Aceh and West Kalimantan have been burning even since the first quarter of 2022. In fact, the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) stated that the start of the dry season in 2022 in Indonesia will only occur in April - June and enters the peak of the dry season from June to September.

The Food Estate Project has officially entered its third year since its establishment in 2020. Back in 2020, The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also issued a warning on the food crisis potential impact of quarantine policies and areal lockdowns to food supply chain disruptions on a global scale. Under the intention to maintain national food stocks demand, notably rice, Republic of Indonesia government put out discourse on paddy fields intensification and extensification through the Food Estate program. Shortly after the discourse was declared, this project was listed in Presidential Regulation Number 109/2020 concerning the National Strategic Project (PSN), validating the government's priority to actionize it.

Massive forest and land fires in Riau have caused multi-sectoral losses. Pantau Gambut analysis from 1 July – 11 September 2019 shows that the majority of fires in Riau occurred on peatlands and almost half of them are within concession area. Although historically Riau was the location of forest and land fires in Indonesia for the past 15 years, the annually recurring fires in the concession areas should be a highlight.

Just like in previous years, mass media headlines will soon be dominated by news of land and forest fires in regions where the disaster typically strikes. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that the dry season will arrive in June and peak in August. This year, however, the threat of land and forest fires, and the haze caused by the fires, loom in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As both the pandemic and the land and forest fires pose severe risks to our respiratory system, how will the government address the two national disasters?
