This document stipulates the National Peatland Ecosystem Function Map with a scale of 1:250,000, which will serve as a reference in preparing and determining the National Peatland Ecosystem Management and Protection Plan (RPPEG).  The map for KHGs throughout Indonesia is also stipulated with a scale of 1:5,000,000. 

The National Peatland Ecosystem Function Map covers protection and cultivation functions. The total area is divided into 12,398,482 hectares designated for protection and 12,269,321 hectares designated for cultivation in the following regions:

  1. Sumatra Island – 4,985,913 hectares for protection and 4,618,616 hectares for cultivation
  2. Kalimantan Island – 4,094,203 hectares for protection and 4,310,614 hectares for cultivation
  3. Sulawesi Island – 28,305 hectares for protection and 34,985 hectares for cultivation
  4. Papua Island – 3,290,061 hectares for protection and 3,305,106 hectares for cultivation

Article 6 of the stipulation explains that: 

  • The National Peatland Ecosystem Function Map may be revised with reference to provincial or regent peatland ecosystem function maps with a scale of 1:50,000. 
  • The map can be revised every six months and stipulated by the Director General of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control on behalf of the Minister of the Environment and Forestry. 
  • The National Peatland Ecosystem Function Map with a scale of 1:50,000 is stipulated by the Director General of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control on behalf of the Minister of the Environment and Forestry.
