The Ministry of the Environment and Forestry stipulates the National KHG Map with a scale of 1:250,000. This map serves as a reference for determining the functions of peatland ecosystems. While KHG distribution throughout Indonesia is detailed in a map with a scale of 1:5,000,000.
The National KHG Map shows 865 KHGs covering a total of 24,667,804 hectares, distributed as follows:
- Sumatra Island has 207 KHGs, which cover 9,604,529 hectares;
- Kalimantan Island has 190 KHGs, which cover 8,404,818 hectares;
- Sulawesi Island has three KHGs, which cover 63,290 hectares; and
- Papua Island has 465 KHGs, which cover 6,595,167 hectares.
The National KHG Map is to be revised every six months based on provincial and regent KHG maps with a scale of 1:50,000. This will be stipulated by the Director General of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control on behalf of the Minister of the Environment and Forestry.
