President Joko Widodo emphasized that BRG is responsible for organizing and facilitating the restoration of 2 million hectares of peatlands in Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Papua within five years.
The targets for peatland restoration per year are as follows:
- 30% in 2016
- 20% in 2017
- 20% in 2018
- 20% in 2019
- 10% in 2020
Peatland restoration planning and implementation started in the Pulang Pisau regency in Central Kalimantan, the Musi Banyuasin and Ogan Komering Ilir regencies in South Sumatra, and the Meranti Islands in Riau.
BRG is a reflection of President Joko Widodo’s government’s commitment to prevent forest and land fires.
