As part of the Indonesian Government's commitment to a more effective forest and land fire prevention and management, President Joko Widodo signed Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 3 of 2020 concerning Forest and Land Fire Management. The President gave an instruction to implement efforts to overcome forest and land fires through activities to prevent, extinguish and manage forest and land fires within the Indonesian territory. 

The Presidential Instruction also emphasized that effective management must be carried out on efforts to enforce the law on the crime of forest and land fires, payment of compensation in accordance with the level of damage or consequences required for rehabilitation costs, restoration of forest and land, imposition of administrative sanctions in accordance with statutory regulations and other necessary actions.

The President mandates collaborative and synergistic activities to manage forest and land fires in the relevant ministries, state institutions, and local governments, which include:

  1. Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs; 
  2. Ministry of Home Affairs; 
  3. Ministry of Foreign Affairs; 
  4. Ministry of Finance; 
  5. Ministry of Education and Culture; 
  6. Ministry of Health; 
  7. Ministry of Social Affairs; 
  8. Ministry of Public Works and Housing; 
  9. Ministry of Transportation; 
  10. Ministry of Communication and Informatics; 
  11. Ministry of Agriculture; 
  12. Ministry of Environment and Forestry; 
  13. Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration; 
  14. Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency; 
  15. Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency; 
  16. Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises; 
  17. Cabinet Secretariat; 
  18. Attorney General's Office; 
  19. Indonesia National Army; 
  20. Indonesia National Police; 
  21. National Disaster Management Agency; 
  22. Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency; 
  23. Geospatial Information Agency; 
  24. Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space;

  28. District/city government

The issuance of this Presidential Instruction caused the Presidential Instruction Number 11 of 2015 concerning Improvement of Land and Forest Fire Management officially revoked.
