The meeting was attended by representatives from regional governments, the National Armed Forces, and the police, and the head of Integrated Service Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry in nine priority fire prevention provinces. These priority provinces include North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and Papua. The meeting was also attended by other related ministries and institutions.
In this coordination meeting, President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of land governance, particularly on community land and private concessions. He also highlighted the importance of coordinated peatland restoration efforts to ensure sustainable management. This is necessary to allow local communities to benefit from peatlands and avoid fire incidents. President Joko Widodo also reminded all parties to strengthen cooperation among the police and central, regional, provincial, and city government institutions to prevent forest and land fires in 2017.
