Bringing the peatland restoration agenda into global discourse, Salsabila Khairunnisa, Social Research and Policy Analysis Specialist at Pantau Gambut, participated in the International Scientific Conference “Land, Life, and Society”, held at the University of Cartagena, Colombia, from 20–23 February 2026.

This conference serves as a key node within the series of events leading up to ICARRD+20 (International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development), bringing together academics, policymakers, and scholar-activists from various countries to discuss contemporary agrarian issues.

During the forum, Salsabila presented Pantau Gambut’s research titled “Producing the Environment: The State, Capital, and Peatland Restoration in Indonesia”, focusing on the relationship between the state, capital, and the politics of peatland restoration in Indonesia within an environmental political economy framework.

In addition to presenting research findings, Salsabila also participated in plenary sessions addressing the dynamics of social movements, tenure rights, agrarian conflict and reform, as well as broader geopolitical and political economy developments shaping the agrarian sector.

This momentum was equally utilised to build strategic networks with international academic collectives, including CASAS, PLAAS, ISS, and China Agricultural University. This synergy with scholar-activists from the Global South is expected to broaden research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and access to academic resources, reinforcing Pantau Gambut’s strategic agenda moving forward.
