Current project

Pantau Gambut is currently working on Peatland Business Hub project. The main goal of this project is to strengthen sustainable peatland management through the promotion of peatland commodities into green market ecosystems as a support to improve peatland governance in Indonesia. Through this project, Pantau Gambut aims to escalate the value of peatland commodities and improve the opportunity for peat communities to introduce those commodities products and get support from green investors. It also supports the government in targeting peatland restoration to mitigate the impact of climate change, which is a significant problem in Indonesia.

This project will be implemented in 4 peat provinces in Indonesia, Riau, Sumatra Selatan, Kalimantan Barat and Kalimantan Tengah. The project sites are four provinces with the most extensive peatlands in Indonesia, which historically have experienced fires, degradation, and threatened by large-scale industries. One of the goals during the first phase of the project is to identify and map the role of related actors and market research to determine the supply chain, supply, and demand for products and identify potential commodities from peatlands that are innovative and attractive to the market.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work collaboratively to co-develop strategy in supply chain and supply-demand mapping of the potential peatland commodities
2. Carry out mapping activity to determine the actors involved and their roles from the local government/agency, local business/communities, and investors who have similar values in sustainability and are interested in collaborating and participating in a green market ecosystem
3. Work collaboratively with Simpul Jaringan of Pantau Gambut as the implementor of mapping activities of potential commodities from peatlands
4. Carry out market analysis (market demand, supply, and equilibrium) of potential sustainable peatland commodities
5. Accountable for overall technical management and consolidation of supply chain mapping data

Requirements

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field with minimum 5 years’ experience in supply chain issues particularly procurement or sustainable sourcing or related works
2. Experienced in a procurement or sustainability role within a business or corporation is a plus
3. Minimum of 3 years experience in supply chain issues and different sourcing strategies
4. Familiar with issues on peatland, paludiculture and sustainable practices in peatland
5. Good analytical skills and ability to summarize key messages and recommendations from data analysis

Deliverables

Value chain analysis result of at least 1 commodity showing the process of adding the value of raw peatland commodities to competitive economical products providing pathways for local business development in Riau, Kalimantan Tengah, Kalimantan Barat, and Sumatra Selatan

Key stakeholder analysis involved in sustainable peatland commodities within the supply chain from upstream to downstream

Market analysis results (market demand, supply, and equilibrium) and possibility business scheme of potential sustainable peatland commodities in Riau, Kalimantan Tengah, Kalimantan Barat, and Sumatra Selatan
