Pantau Gambut’s efforts to benefit local communities in peatland ecosystems have reached a new milestone.

On 8 September 2024, Iola Abas, National Coordinator of Pantau Gambut, received the 2025 Katadata Green Innovator Award in the Community Impact category.

As an organization committed to protecting and promoting the sustainability of Indonesia’s peatlands, Pantau Gambut connects peat-friendly local enterprises with leading funding institutions through the Peatland Community Business Hub (PCBH) program. Through thorough research and mapping, we support the development of four commodities across four provinces: Riau (coconut/VCO), South Sumatra (swamp buffalo milk), Central Kalimantan (rattan handicrafts), and West Kalimantan (coffee).

Through this initiative, social, economic, and ecological elements can progress side by side. Local communities in these four provinces have the opportunity to meet with 17 green investors to generate positive impacts on the sustainable management of 8,000 hectares of peatland. This management also benefits more than 500 families.

Pantau Gambut believes that peatlands are ecosystems capable of providing livelihoods for local communities in a sustainable manner. We are confident that by opening up markets, stabilizing supply chains, and increasing access to technology, communities can develop innovative approaches for sustainable peatland management.
