Regional election candidates must recognize the importance of peatland protection in their region. By protecting peatlands and forests, they are helping to save the lives and prosperity of their constituents. Nevertheless, peatland issues have not been prioritized in regional, provincial, regency, or city election campaigns. This is concerning, since regional governments’ pledges are key to the achievement of national peatland restoration targets.
This talk broached the topic of “Peatland Restoration in Regional Elections” with Clorinda Wibowo, a researcher from Pantau Gambut, and Khalisah Khalid, the head of WALHI’s National Executive Campaign Department. Listeners tuned in to KBR from 100 networks across Indonesia or joined the live stream from kbr.id/kbr.id on Thursday, 31 May 2018 from 9:00–10:00.
